Hella Makes First Appearance at the World's Leading Exhibition for Architecture and Technology

Hella makes it debut: Light and electronics specialist Hella will be present, for the first time, at this year's Light + Building exhibition, the world's largest exhibition for architecture and technology, held April 11 - 16l in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Over 2,000 exhibitors presented their newest products in light, electrical engineering, domestic- and building automation at this, the leading exhibition in this field with over 160 000 visitors.

The appearance at this year's exhibition represents another milestone for the automotive supplier as part of the strategy it has been pursuing since 2008 of reaching out to new customer target groups beyond its classic automotive business. The general thrust of this strategy is to use its product-, technology and process know-how developed over many years in its core automotive business to applications in other fields, with the main focus being on LED technology. For years, Hella has been one of the leading suppliers in this areas in the automotive industry.

Why not roll out this mature technology know-how in other fields? This was the question light experts at Lippstadt asked themselves two years ago before developing their innovative LED street-lighting system. Hella also succeeded in reaching a top position very quickly even in this new territory. For example, the new Hella development "Eco StreetLine“ was awarded third place in the German government's "Energieeffiziente Stadtbeleuchtung" (Energy-efficient streetlighting) competition in 2009. At the Lightfair exhibition in Warsaw held in March 2010, the light won both "Best exhibition product" and the "the most innovative product for the Polish market" and was awarded a prize by Ewa Kossak, deputy Polish Finance Minister.

Almost one thousand Eco StreetLine luminaires have already been installed on Germany's streets - and the tendency is for many more. Hella will present two more new developments to a global audience at the Light + Building exhibition: the Eco StreetLine Case, a case light for higher light points (up to 8 m in height), and Eco StreetLine Park, a lighting system for cycle lanes and parks. These are also modular in design and represent an efficient alternative to conventional technologies due to the high levels of energy efficiency and low maintenance costs. The operational lives of these LED modules are, at 12 years, considerably longer than the average for traditional streetlights. As well as its expertise in LED technology, Hella has has also transferred its level of service from the automotive industry to the area of street-lighting: The company, for example, can guarantee spare parts availability for over two decades and is thus able to position itself as a reliable, long-term lighting partner for communes and enterprises.
