World’s Longest Highway Tunnel Above 10,000 ft

Built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalaya, the Atal Tunnel will end up saving 4 hours for travellers on the Leh-Manali Highway.

The tunnel is at an elevation of 3,100 m. At 9.02 km in length, the tunnel will be one of the longest road tunnels in India.

The tunnel was built by a joint venture of Indian company Afcons and Strabag AG of Austria on behalf of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which operates and maintains over 32,885 km of roads and bridges in India’s border areas.
