New Bomag BW120AD-4 Provides Enhanced Productivity

The new Bomag BW120AD-4 tandem vibratory roller provides increased efficiency and productivity while enhancing operator comfort and safety.

Powered by a 33,7 hp 3-cylinder water-cooled Kubota diesel engine, the BW120AD-4 has an operating weight of 2600 kg and 120 cm (47,2 in) wide drums. Increased horsepower combined with an additionnal weight contributes to a maximum centrifugical force of 6300 kN (10 125 lbs) - a 6% increase over the model it replaces.

The unit also offers a choice of two vibration frequencies, 3300 and 4200 vpm, for improved compaction results on a wide range of materials. Maximum working speed in high frequency is 6,5 km/h.

For greater productivity, the BW120AD-4 boasts larger fuel and water tanks that reduce refueling and refilling frequency. The fuel tank holds 40 l, an increase of 15%, while the water tank holds 220 l, an increase of 22% over the previous model.

The BW120AD-4 comes standard with a crab walk feature, which allows the operator to offset the roller's rear drum up to 38 mm in either direction. The crab walk feature delivers superior performance when compacting joints and helps prevent rear drum from contacting curbs or other obstructions when rolling into and out of turns. To further maximize maneuvrability and productivity, a bolt-on oscillating articulation joint provides for full drum contact on irregular terrain and allows the rear drum to follow the same path as the front drum, even during turns.

Equipped with a rear-drum vibration lockout, the BW120AD-4 allows for vibration of both drums or only the front drum to prevent over-compaction or avoid damage to sensitive materials. Larger diameter, heavy-duty drums ensure longer life and help prevent material pushing.

The BW120AD-4 also features new enhancements designed to increase operator comfort and safety. Operating controls are positioned for easy reach, extra legroom has been added and a new vibration-reducing frame lowers operator stress. Also, an exclusive slanted drum support leg design combined with a standard laterally sliding seat maximizes visibility of the drum edges.

Standard safety features include emergency stop switch, ROPS, fitted safety belts and a backup alarm. The emergency stop allows the operator to immediately disengage all roller functions by simply hitting a button. An optional rotary beacon is also available.

Other standard features include a redisigned hood constructed of highly impact-resistant composite material, a pressurized water spray system, front/rear transport lashing and lifting points, two scrapers per drum, lockable engine cover, vandal-protected instrument panel, hour-meter and water-level indicator. Front and rear working lights, single-point lifting device and edge cutter are optional.
