Le nombre total des travailleurs de la chaîne Canac-Marquis Grenier totalisera ainsi près de 1400 employés. Dès le printemps prochain, la clientèle pourra bénéficier de la nouvelle configuration de la succursale qui lui permettra d’avoir accès à plus de marchandises sur le plancher et en inventaire.

Le Québec se dote d’une norme d’inspection et d’analyse pour les réseaux d’égout Infra 2009 a accueilli plus de 500 délégués, principalement les donneurs d’ordre et les grandes firmes d’ingénierie du Québec. D’après Alain Lortie, membre du conseil permanent sur les infrastructures souterraines et conférencier au congrès, «l’introduction de cette norme fut l’occasion pour le CERIU de prouver que nous pouvions être un moteur de changement et que notre action de concertation, telle que nous la préconisons, est possible afin de réguler adéquatement notre industrie des infrastructures souterraines.» Ceci met fin à une époque où chaque municipalité avait son propre système d’évaluation souvent rattaché à un entrepreneur unique occasionnant par le fait même une problématique importante tant à l’égard de la transparence que du jeu de la concurrence. Plusieurs grandes firmes d’inspection télévisée et de gestion de données des quatre coins du Québec telles que VEOLIA Services Environnementaux, Nordikeau inc, MSC Réhabilitation, Groupe Altus, NCS Nettoyage de conduits souterrains ont déjà emboité le pas et offrent aux municipalités du Québec des résultats d’inspection standardisée. La norme québécoise CERIU-NASSCO-PACP permettra aussi aux gestionnaires municipaux, peu importe l’envergure de la ville, de se concentrer sur la gestion de l’information plutôt que sur la problématique d’intégration des résultats dans leurs systèmes informatiques, accélérant par le fait même le processus d’entretien et de réhabilitation des infrastructures.
Technip remporte un contrat pour des installations de gaz à Abu Dhabi Ce projet consiste à moderniser les infrastructures existantes pour répondre à l’augmentation de la production de pétrole des nouvelles installations d’Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) et pouvoir gérer jusqu’à 1,5 milliard de m3/an de gaz associé additionnel en provenance des champs existants Asab, Shah et Sahil. Technip est responsable de l’installation d’une nouvelle station de compression de gaz, des lignes de distribution, du dégoulottage des infrastructures existantes d’ASAB 0 et de la déviation de la charge d’ASAB 0 vers ASAB I/II grâce à la mise en place d’un nouveau compresseur, de lignes de distribution et autres installations associées. Ce projet sera réalisé par le centre opérationnel de Technip à Abu Dhabi (Emirats Arabes Unis). La première phase du projet devrait être achevée au troisième trimestre 2012 et la phase restante au deuxième trimestre 2013. Ce contrat confirme la décision de Technip prise en mars 2009 de créer une nouvelle organisation régionale au Moyen-Orient, basée à Abu Dhabi, dans le cadre de sa stratégie de proximité avec ses marchés et ses clients.
Le Réseau IQ se positionne en faveur de l’électrification massive des transports «Cette cible est relativement ambitieuse dans la mesure où le Québec fait déjà bien par rapport à ses voisins en terme de réduction de l’émission des GES et envois un signal encourageant alors que le Canada vise seulement 3%», affirme Étienne Couture, ing., président du RéseauIQ. «Ce faisant, elle commandera au gouvernement de dévoiler un plan d’action 2013-2020 musclé pour atteindre cette cible, un plan mobilisateur comme l’a été celui de la nationalisation de l’électricité par exemple», d’ajouter monsieur Couture. Dans son étude sur Le développement énergétique du Québec dans un contexte de développement durable, le RéseauIQ constate que plus de la moitié des émissions de GES au Québec provient quasi exclusivement de la combustion énergétique de produits pétroliers pour le transport, dont l’importation coûte près de 14 milliards $ par an au Québec. En plus de contribuer à l’atteinte de la cible de 20% de réduction des GES d’ici 2020, l’électrification massive des transports vise également à affranchir l’économie québécoise de cette dépendance. Or, le Québec occupe une place privilégiée en Amérique du Nord parce que riche de ses ressources en énergie renouvelable, sans compter son potentiel de conservation énergétique. Le RéseauIQ croit donc fermement à l’avenir de l’électrification du transport au Québec et entend apporter sa contribution à l’atteinte de la cible gouvernementale en ralliant les acteurs autour de ce projet. «Il s’agit là d’un important défi pour le Québec car il pourrait être assorti d’opportunités réelles de développement économique dans le respect de l’environnement, mais il va falloir que le gouvernement soit conséquent et animé d’une volonté ferme d’aller de l’avant en soutenant le savoir-faire du génie québécois pour réaliser cette révolution dans le transport», de conclure monsieur Couture.
RES Canada Signe un accord-cadre de turbines pour 5 projets canadiens L’accord est signé en même temps qu’EDF-Énergies Nouvelles SA (EDF-EN) pour des projets totalisant 954 MW en cours d’élaboration par Saint-Laurent Energies Inc., une entreprise montréalaise de l’énergie éolienne détenue conjointement par RES Canada Inc., EDF EN Canada Inc. et Hydroméga Services Inc. Il se traduira par la livraison de turbines avec la capacité de 2 MW chacune, dont les composantes majeures seront fabriquées au Québec par des sous-traitants de REpower. Cette annonce est une nouvelle étape importante depuis la signature des contrats d’achat d’électricité avec Hydro-Québec Distribution, annoncée en juin 2008, suivant l’appel d’offres pour 2000 MW d’énergie éolienne à travers toute la province. Une fois complété, le développement représentera un investissement total supérieur à 2 milliards $ au Québec.
Aecon annonce une entente au sujet de l’aéroport international de Quito En vertu de l’entente, qui est subordonnée à l’approbation de la cour constitutionnelle de l’Équateur et à d’autres éléments livrables, un arrangement a été conclu qui tient compte de la décision antérieure de la cour et qui règle un certain nombre d’autres questions importantes aux yeux des investisseurs, des bailleurs de fonds du projet et de la municipalité. L’entente a été négociée entre les diverses parties participant au projet d’aéroport international de Quito, notamment la municipalité de Quito (pour les autorités équatoriennes), la Corporation commerciale canadienne (la «CCC», un organisme du gouvernement du Canada qui a le contrat de construction du nouvel aéroport de Quito) et les bailleurs de fonds du projet, de même qu’Aecon et ses partenaires dans Quiport. Avant la mise en œuvre de cette entente, Aecon détient un intérêt financier de 42,3% dans la concession de l’aéroport de Quito en vertu de sa participation dans Quiport. Le concesseur agissant au nom de la municipalité de Quito est Corporacion Aeropeurto y Zona Franca del Distrito Metropolitano de Quito (CORPAQ). Le nouvel aéroport est construit en vertu d’un contrat signé entre CORPAQ et la CCC. La CCC a sous-traité 100% des travaux de construction à Aecon qui, à son tour, a sous-traité les travaux à une coentreprise à parts égales formée d’Aecon et d’Andrade Gutierrez Constructores, l’une des plus grandes entreprises de construction au Brésil. Les principaux prêteurs du projet sont : Overseas Private Investment Corporation, des États-Unis; Export-Import Bank of the United States; la Banque interaméricaine de développement; ainsi que Exportation et développement Canada (EDC).
Aecon obtient du MTO un contrat pour l’élargissement de la route 69 Aecon Construction and Materials (ACML) travaillera en étroite collaboration avec Leo Alarie and Sons, dont Aecon a fait l’acquisition en 2007, et tirera pleinement parti des ressources d’Alarie pendant les travaux de construction. Ce contrat est le troisième attribué à Aecon au cours des quatre dernières années pour des travaux de construction et d’élargissement de la route 69. Les travaux ont déjà commencé et devraient prendre fin en août 2012. En vertu de ce contrat, Aecon fera passer de deux à quatre le nombre de voies de la route 69 sur un tronçon commençant à 14 km au nord de la route 64 et se poursuivant en direction nord jusqu’à Estaire. Le projet comprendra aussi la construction d’un nouvel échangeur sur la route 637, de neuf ponceaux de drainage en béton et de deux nouveaux ponts, dont l’un servira de passage faunique et comportera des clôtures pour guider les animaux sauvages. «Ce contrat met en lumière les synergies entre ACML et notre division Alarie», a déclaré Teri McKibbon, chef de la direction d’Aecon Infrastructure Group. «Nous sommes une fois de plus ravis de faire profiter le MTO de nos formidables capacités en matière d’infrastructures civiles et de l’aider à réaliser ce projet de développement du nord de la province.»
Aecon obtient deux contrats pour modifier une raffinerie de Regina Le projet comporte des travaux mécaniques, de fabrication et d'installation de tuyauterie et d'autre matériel à la raffinerie. Ils devraient commencer au cours du quatrième trimestre de 2009 et se terminer pendant l'été 2011. «Le fait d'avoir obtenu ce projet est très important pour nous d'un point de vue stratégique, car il représente une percée sur le marché industriel de la Saskatchewan", a déclaré Paul Koenderman, vice-président directeur, Aecon Industrial Group. "Nous avons hâte de travailler avec Consumers' à la réalisation de cet important projet.»
SNC-Lavalin obtient un contrat au Cambodge SNC-Lavalin fournira les services d’ingénierie, d’approvisionnement et de construction pour tout le système, y compris le bâtiment du centre de commande, le logiciel du système, le matériel informatique et l’intégration du système aux réseaux de télécommunication et au matériel de télémesure. Le centre de commande, conçu autour du système de gestion de l’énergie de pointe de SNC-Lavalin, le logiciel GENe, gèrera l’ensemble du réseau de transport d’électricité du Cambodge. Ce contrat, octroyé dans le cadre du projet de transport et d’électrification rurale, contribuera à alimenter en électricité une grande partie de la population rurale du Cambodge. «Ce projet est important pour la croissance du pays qui, pour s’assurer d’une alimentation suffisante en électricité, s’adapte à l’automatisation moderne et aux technologies Smart Grid, a déclaré Joe Salim, vice-président et directeur général de la division Réseaux électriques de SNC-Lavalin. L’expérience acquise en systèmes de contrôle de l’énergie dans cette région nous permet de contribuer à ce projet par notre savoir-faire et des ressources locales.» Les travaux sont commencés et le centre de commande devrait être en service en juin 2011.
Kinedyne ouvre de vastes installations à Nantong, en Chine Situé dans la ville portuaire de Nantong, le nouveau complexe inclut quatre bâtiments distincts, pour une superficie de plus de 18 500 m2. L’installation servira dorénavant de centre d’opération pour plus de 300 employés de l’entreprise, qui soutiendront les activités de fabrication, contrôle de qualité, ingénierie et gestion de chaîne logistique dans la région. «Bien que l’économie mondiale ne se soit pas entièrement remise de la récession, nous avons fortement investi dans cette immense et nouvelle installation de production», explique James Klausmann II, vice-président directeur de Kinedyne. «Notre philosophie a toujours été d’adopter une approche dynamique pour l’avenir de la compagnie. Mon père a fondé la compagnie il y a quatre décennies, et ce n’est pas en étant timide que nous avons connu une croissance nous permettant d’atteindre la position de tête dans notre marché. Nous avons pris des risques dans le passé, et nous le faisons de nouveau pour garantir aux clients de Kinedyne qu’ils achètent les meilleurs produits d’arrimage sur le marché.» L’usine de Nantong de Kinedyne permettra à l’entreprise de contrôler tout ce qui entre dans la fabrication des produits Kinedyne – une différence clé comparativement aux autres fabricants de produits d’arrimage. En plus de constituer un avantage pour les clients en termes de qualité et service, la nouvelle installation soutiendra less efforts de standardisation pour une large part des produits de la compagnie pour divers marchés mondiaux. Un des plus importants objectifs du projet Nantong était d’étendre les capacités dans la fabrication de nombreuses sous-composantes utilisées dans plusieurs produits Kinedyne. La capacité de contrôler les délais de production de ces composantes rehausse encore plus l’engagement de la compagnie pour le service et la qualité. Kinedyne, compte cinq installations de production et distribution en Amérique du Nord, qui garantissent un délai de production des commandes de 24 h pour tout article de son catalogue. Pittoresque et historique, Nantong est une ville portuaire située dans le delta du fameux fleuve Yangtze, et a une population d’environ 750 000 habitants. La proximité entre Nantong et Shanghai – un centre d’affaires et port commercial important – a contribué à la croissance de sa réputation comme site attractif pour des entreprises multinationales faisant affaires en Chine dans le cadre de leurs plans d’expansion mondiale.
Viola Systems lance Arctic Control pour combattre les pannes d’électricité La réduction de la fréquence et la durée des pannes d’électricité est un des principaux objectifs d’amélioration du service des entreprises de distribution. Avec Arctic Control, l’électricité est rétablie immédiatement par télésurveillance et télécontrôle des dispositifs de champ du réseau électrique. Jyrki Penttonen, PDG de Viola Systems, explique que la stratégie des entreprises de distribution des réseaux intelligents consiste à diviser ceux-ci en petites zones. En cas de panne d’électricité, la zone touchée est isolée des autres. Arctic Control fournit la liaison de communication vitale entre la salle de contrôle centralisée et la surveillance et l’exploitation des dispositifs de champ de moyenne tension. Monsieur Penttonen ajoute qu’une communication sécurisée et fiable est vitale pour la mise en œuvre d’un réseau intelligent, particulièrement en ce qui concerne la moyenne tension. Arctic Control est particulièrement destiné à répondre aux besoins de grande disponibilité et de sécurité de l’entreprise de distribution. La rénovation des installations existantes, la connexion à de multiples appareillages de commutation et sectionneurs comptent parmi les caractéristiques principales d’Arctic Control. Cérémonie d’inauguration de la centrale hydraulique de Tekeze Le 14 novembre, la cérémonie d’inauguration de la centrale située sur le fleuve Tekeze, en Éthiopie, a réuni des représentants du gouvernement éthiopien, de la presse et du monde des affaires. «La centrale hydraulique de Tekeze va offrir au peuple éthiopien les bienfaits immédiats d’une énergie renouvelable et disponible en abondance», a déclaré Alan Krause, président directeur général de MWH. «Nous sommes très fiers de participer à ce projet qui allie notre expérience des infrastructures hydrauliques et notre vocation qui est de contribuer à construire un monde meilleur.» Puisque la centrale hydraulique est située à environ trois heures de la ville la plus proche, MWH a supervisé le développement de 37 km de routes et de trois petites agglomérations destinées à héberger près de 3000 ouvriers. Durant toute la durée du projet, plusieurs centaines d’ingénieurs et de techniciens locaux ont bénéficié d’une formation structurée au travers de cours et de formations sur le terrain, ce qui a permis à la population locale d’augmenter ses compétences techniques en prévision d’initiatives futures.

Technip Awarded Gas Facilities Contract in Abu Dhabi Technip is responsible for the installation of a new booster compression station, transfer lines, debottlenecking of existing ASAB 0 facilities and diverting feed flow from ASAB 0 to ASAB I/II by installing a new compressor, transfer lines and other associated facilities. This project will be executed by Technip’s operating center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The first phase will be completed during the third quarter 2012 and the remaining phase during the second quarter 2013. This award reaffirms Technip’s decision in March 2009 to create a new Middle East regional organization, based in Abu Dhabi as part of its strategy to increase proximity to its markets and clients.
Wind Works to acquire U.S. company, wind projects The acquisition increases Ottawa-based Wind Works’ portfolio to 11 wind energy developments totaling 385 MW, most of them in Ontario. The company also signed option agreements to acquire an additional 3 wind developments in Europe totaling 85 MW. The Boards of Directors for each company unanimously approved the deal. The value of the proposal was not disclosed and it is subject to regulatory approvals. Wind Works plans to start construction on its first Canadian projects in 2011 and construction on the first U.S. project is expected in 2012.

Xtrm Cat™ Diesel Oxidation Catalyst Selected for Emerging Technology Grant Award This grant award was made possible by the collaboration and efforts of the MRCT, the Ingram Barge Company, Emisstar LLC and ESWC, and will result in the retrofit installation of 13 Xtrm Cat™ catalysts on 6 vessels owned and operated by Ingram Barge Company. Ingram Barge, a Tennessee-based corporation, is the one of the largest barge companies in North America, with over 130 motor vessels and approximately 4000 barges operating throughout much of the nation’s inland waterway system including the Mississippi River. The diesel engine emission reductions from the application of the Xtrm Cat™ catalysts on Ingram’s vessels is projected to be in excess of 85,5 t of particulate matter (PM) over the 5-year project life. This significant amount of PM reduction is equivalent to removing over 200 diesel powered highway trucks from local highways. With anticipated completion in the 1st quarter of 2010, this application will represent the largest single deployment of emissions retrofit devices on vessels operating on inland waterways in North America. In October of 2008 the Company’s Xtrm Cat™ Marine/Locomotive catalysts became the first, and remains the only technology to be listed by the EPA as an “Emerging Technology” for marine 2-stroke, Tier 0 and Tier 1, turbocharged EMD model engines. This listing provides a platform for the Xtrm Cat™ to be funded in showcase programs as the technology moves through the process of achieving EPA verification/certification. Currently there are approximately 20 000 of these types of diesel-powered engines in service in marine vessels within North America waters. In March 2008, EPA finalized a three part program that will dramatically reduce emissions from marine diesel engines below 30 l per cylinder displacement. These include marine propulsion engines used on vessels from recreational and small fishing boats to towboats, tugboats and Great Lake freighters, and marine auxiliary engines ranging from small generator sets to large generator sets on oceangoing vessels. The rule will cut PM emission from these engines by as much as 90% and NOx emissions by as much as 80% when fully implemented.

(EDF-EN) for projects totaling 954 MW being developed by Saint-Laurent Énergies Inc., a Montréal-based wind energy company jointly owned by RES Canada Inc., EDF EN Canada Inc and Hydroméga Services Inc. It will result in the delivery of turbines rated at 2 MW capacity apiece for which components will be fabricated in Québec by subcontractors to REpower. “RES Canada is pleased to have reached this milestone in our Québec activities,” said Peter Clibbon, Vice-President of RES Canada. “We will assist Saint-Laurent Énergies on the completion of permitting and we will work closely with Québec and municipal authorities to bring these sustainable energy projects to the construction phase.” RES Canada will serve as the project constructor for the 954 MW of projects. As such, RES Canada will hire and supervise a wide range of local and provincial subcontractors for various specialized construction services. “RES Canada will build these projects, working together with Québec subcontractors. Construction will bring considerable economic benefits in the form of jobs and local economic activity to nearby communities,” said Mr. Clibbon. The announcement is the next major step forward since the signing of Power Purchase Contracts with Hydro-Québec Distribution, announced in June of 2008, following a province-wide 2000 MW open tender. Once operational, the energy produced will supply more than 250 000 homes or just fewer than 700 000 people with renewable wind energy. Once completed, the development will represent a total investment exceeding $2 billion in Québec.
RES Canada and Enbridge team up on 99 MW Talbot Wind Energy Project Construction of the project will be undertaken by RES Canada under contract to the partnership. The Talbot Wind Energy Project marks RES Canada’s arrival in the Canadian renewables market with the first fully integrated wind project which was developed and will be constructed by RES Canada.
Aecon Announces Agreement with Municipality of Quito Regarding Quito International Airport Under the agreement, which is subject to approval by the Constitutional Court of Ecuador and a number of other closing deliverables, an arrangement has been found which addresses the prior Court ruling and which resolves a number of other issues important to the investors, the project's lenders and the Municipality. The agreement was negotiated among the various parties involved in the Quito International Airport project, including the Municipality of Quito (for the Ecuadorian authorities), the Canadian Commercial Corporation ("CCC", an agency of the Government of Canada that holds the contract to construct the new Quito Airport), and the project lenders, as well as Aecon and its partners in Quiport. Prior to the effect of this agreement, Aecon has a 42.3% economic interest in the Quito airport concession through its stake in Quiport. The grantor of the concession on behalf of the Municipality of Quito is Corporacion Aeropeurto y Zona Franca del Distrito Metropolitano de Quito (CORPAQ). The new airport is being constructed under a contract signed between CORPAQ and the CCC. The CCC, has subcontracted 100% of the construction work to Aecon who in turn has subcontracted the work to a 50/50 joint venture consisting of Aecon and Andrade Gutierrez Constructores, one of the largest construction companies in Brazil. The project's senior lenders are: USA-based Overseas Private Investment Corporation, Export-Import Bank of the USA and the Inter-American Development Bank as well as Export Development Canada (EDC).
Aecon Awarded MTO Contract to Expand Highway 69 Aecon Construction and Materials (ACML) will work closely with Leo Alarie and Sons, acquired by Aecon in 2007, making full use of Alarie's resources during construction. This contract is Aecon's third contract in the past four years for construction and/or expansion of Highway 69. Work on the project has commenced and is scheduled to be completed in August of 2012. Under the contract, Aecon will widen Highway 69 from two lanes to four lanes for a stretch of nearly 15 kilometres, starting 14 kilometres north of Highway 64 and continuing north to Estaire. The project will include the construction of one new interchange at Highway 637, nine concrete drainage culverts, and two new bridges, one of which will serve as a wildlife crossing with fencing to guide the animals. "This contract highlights the synergies between ACML and our Alarie business unit," said Teri McKibbon, CEO of Aecon's Infrastructure Group. "We are pleased once again to lend our substantial civil infrastructure capabilities to assist MTO on this northern development project."
Aecon Industrial Awarded Key Oilsands Contract The project, elements of which are fixed-price/lump sum, includes the completion of piping, electrical, and insulation work, as well as some smaller civil and mechanical work for five of the ten process units that make up Plant 93. The workforce for this project is expected to peak at 600 personnel. Work is scheduled to begin in January 2010 and is scheduled for completion by the end of the third quarter in 2010. “This contract is one of the largest in the history of the Industrial Group, and signifies for us that work in the Oilsands is beginning to ramp-up once again,” said Paul Koenderman, executive vice president, Aecon Industrial Group. “This project award builds on the longstanding relationship that both Aecon and Lockerbie have developed with Suncor.”
SNC-Lavalin Awarded Contract for an Energy Control System in Cambodia SNC-Lavalin will provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the complete system, including the control centre building, system software, hardware and system integration with the telecommunication networks and remote metering equipment. Based on SNC-Lavalin's state-of-the-art GENe Energy Management System, the control centre will operate Cambodia's entire electric transmission network. As part of the Rural Electrification and Transmission Project, this system will help provide electricity to a large portion of Cambodia's rural population. "This project is important for the growth of the country, especially as it adapts to modern automation and Smart Grid technology to secure its electricity supply," said Joe Salim, Vice-President and General Manager of SNC-Lavalin's Power Systems Division. "Thanks to our experience in energy control systems in this region, we are able to support this project with local expertise and capabilities." Work on the project has begun and the control centre is expected to be operational by June 2011.
Shareholders overwhelmingly endorse split of EnCana into two distinct and independent companies The Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta also approved the transaction, which is by way of a plan of arrangement. Under the terms of the arrangement, common shareholders of EnCana will own one new EnCana common share (which will continue to be represented by existing EnCana common share certificates) and will receive one common share of Cenovus for each EnCana common share held on December 7, 2009, the anticipated distribution record date. On completion of the transaction, Cenovus Energy Inc. will be focused on the development of EnCana’s Canadian enhanced oil assets and United States refinery interests, underpinned by a well-established natural gas and oil production base in Alberta and Saskatchewan with significant capacity to deliver long-term free cash flow. The Cenovus assets, which encompass EnCana’s Integrated Oil and Canadian Plains divisions, represent about one-third of EnCana’s current production and proved reserves at year-end 2008. EnCana’s other major operating divisions, Canadian Foothills and USA, will form a pure-play natural gas growth company, aimed at growing existing high-potential resource plays in Canada and the U.S. This natural gas company will represent about two-thirds of EnCana’s current production and proved reserves at year-end 2008.
Kinedyne Opens Sprawling Plant in China Located in the port city of Nantong, the new complex includes four distinct buildings, covering more than 18 500 m2. The facility will now serve as the base of operations for more than 300 of the company’s employees, who will support the company’s manufacturing, quality control, engineering and supply chain management activities in the region. “Although the global economy has not completely recovered from the recession, we’ve invested heavily in a huge, new production facility,” explains James Klausmann II, Kinedyne’s executive vice president. “Our philosophy has always been to take an aggressive approach to our company’s future. My father founded the company four decades ago, and we didn’t grow to reach a leadership position in our market segment by being timid. We’ve taken risks before, and we’re doing it again to ensure that a Kinedyne customer is buying the finest cargo control products available anywhere.” Kinedyne’s Nantong plant will enable the company to control everything that goes into a Kinedyne product – a key differentiator compared to other cargo control companies. One of the most important goals of the Nantong project was to expand the company’s capacity to manufacture numerous subcomponents used to build various Kinedyne products. The ability to control manufacturing lead time on these parts further enhances an already impressive service and quality commitment. Kinedyne utilizes a network of five manufacturing and distribution facilities in North America, all promising a 24-hour turnaround on orders for any catalog item. Viola Systems Launches Arctic Control to Tackle Power Outages Reducing the frequency and duration of power outages is one of the key targets for service improvement of the Distribution Companies. Using Arctic Control, power is restored immediately by remotely monitoring and controlling the field devices in the Electrical Network. Jyrki Penttonen, CEO of Viola Systems, explains that the strategy for the Distribution Companies in the Smart Networks is to divide them in small zones. In the event of a power fault, the effected zone is isolated from the other areas. Dedication Ceremony Marks Completion of Tekeze Hydropower Plant The November 14 dedication ceremony at the plant located on Ethiopia’s Tekeze River attracted foreign and Ethiopian government officials, media and business leaders. The Tekeze Hydropower Project is expected to provide 300 MW of clean, renewable power – it will add 40% to the current 683 MW generated for the entire country. Due to the lack of fossil fuels, virtually all power in Ethiopia comes from hydroelectric sources. By tapping into the significant energy generation potential in the country’s rivers, this hydropower facility is designed as a low-cost way to increase the stability and access to light, heat and water for all communities. The project also creates opportunities for sustained social and economic growth for Ethiopians. MWH started working on the project in 1998, providing design review, preparation of construction drawings, bid packaging and evaluation, and on-site construction management services for the single largest public works project in Ethiopia’s history. Since the hydropower plant is nearly three hours from the nearest city, MWH guided the development of 37 km of roads and three small towns, where nearly 3000 workers reside. Over the duration of the project, several hundred local engineers and technicians received formal classroom and on-the-job training, thus building the technical skills of residents for future initiatives.
B&W Vølund To Supply Waste-To-Energy Technology For Ireland Power Plant B&W Vølund will design and supply a VølundSystems™ waste-fired boiler for the 20 MW plant – Ireland’s first municipal waste-to-energy facility. Indaver will manage the overall construction of the plant, which is scheduled for completion in 2011. The plant will process up to 200 000 t of household and industrial waste each year and will generate power for 20 000 homes. “B&W Vølund and B&W PGG are industry leaders in renewable energy technology and supply customers around the world,” said B&W PGG president and COO Richard L. Killion. “The waste-to-energy facility in Meath, Ireland is an excellent example of how we’re working hard to provide low-carbon, environmentally sound options for our customers and the communities they serve.” Construction on the plant has already begun, and B&W Vølund will deliver its boiler in early 2010. The plant will help Ireland meet a European Union environmental directive that calls for 55% less waste to be shipped to landfills by 2013.

This is the latest step Wells Fargo is taking to support greener businesses.
