Biovoima Finland Chooses the Valmet DNAe Automation System for the BIR AS biogas plant in Norway
Valmet is to deliver the Valmet DNAe Distributed Control System to BIR AS’ biogas plant in Bergen, Norway, built by Biovoima Finland Oy. The plant will be able to process 15,000 t/y of organic waste and 40,000 t/y of cattle manure, aiming to produce biomethane as an end product to replace fossil fuels in the global energy transition. The order is included in Valmet’s orders received of Q# 2024. The factory acceptance test will take place in May 2025, and the final acceptance test will take place in December 2025. The biogas plant will be ready for operation in 2026. Biovoima has earlier chosen the same automation system to the Baltic’s first biogas plant fired with household and commercial biowaste in Tallinn, Estonia. “Because of Valmet’s previous experience with BIR’s waste-to-energy plant and previous collaboration with us, Valmet was the prime candidate to deliver this project. Their modern automation system with web-based engineering tools and user interface allows for a great result from the start,” said Tero Kemppi, project manager, Biovoima Finland Oy. “Our latest automation system, Valmet DNAe Distributed Control System, allows plants like these to make data-driven decisions to reach production, quality, and environmental targets through reliable controls and advanced analytics. Biovoima can count on Valmet as a committed partner willing to evolve together through the lifecycle and think about the future of the energy transition,” said Arto Mäkinen, sales manager, Energy and Process Industry, Automation Systems, Valmet. The delivery includes the Valmet DNAe automation system with the web-based Valmet DNAe User Interface, DNAe Historian Server, single-channel I/O cards, Profinet fieldbuses for motor controls and unit control, as well as spare parts. Additionally, application, system, and display engineering are included in the scope. Biovoima Finland Oy is a cleantech company specializing in waste treatment, renewable energy, and especially renewable gases. It is known for its customer-oriented mindset and solutions, which are high-quality and profitable for the customers. The company was founded in 2015, and its head office is in Jyväskylä.
