A Leap Forward in Electrohydrostatic Pump Technology

Moog Inc. recently announced the launch of the EPU-G, the latest addition to its Electrohydrostatic Pump Unit (EPU) portfolio.

Featuring a newly designed 4-quadrant internal gear pump and a high dynamic servomotor, the EPU-G targets applications with flow rates of 20 to 85 l/min and pressure levels up to 345 bar.

Engineered for direct control via pump speed, the EPU-G is suitable for self-contained hydrostatic transmissions and can build maximum pressure at both pump ports. The EPU-G will be available in sizes 5, 8, 13 and 20 cm³, adding smaller pump volumes to the existing EPU product range, which spans from 19 to 250 cm³.

The EPU-G's variable speed and power-on-demand operation reduce noise emissions at partial load, significantly lowering energy consumption and operating costs. With high dynamics, low inertia and minimal pulsation, the EPU-G enhances overall machine performance. Its compact axial manifold interface allows direct manifold connection without additional piping, increasing system stiffness, reducing actuator footprint, simplifying machine design, and reducing setup and maintenance time. An actuation system based on the EPU-G reduces oil volume by up to 90%, supporting sustainable and clean operations.

The EPU-G's compact design and reduced complexity make it easy to handle and integrate without requiring extensive hydraulic expertise. Compared to medium to large electromechanical actuators, the EPU-G is robust, powerful, and easy to maintain. Moog provides an end-to-end product offering and supports customers in the transition from conventional hydraulic to electrohydrostatic actuation from system design to implementation.

The EPU-G debuted at EuroBLECH, the world’s largest sheet metal working technology exhibition, held October 22-25 in Hannover, Germany.
