L’École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) tient à exprimer sa grande fierté à l’annonce de la nomination de Suze Youance à titre de sénatrice indépendante au Sénat pour représenter le Québec. Diplômée et chargée de cours au Département de génie de la construction, madame Youance a été une collègue et une chargée de cours des plus appréciée de l’ensemble de la communauté, véritable modèle pour les jeunes femmes en génie. Cette nomination, effectuée par la gouverneure générale du Canada, Mary Simon, témoigne d’un parcours remarquable et de l’engagement de Suze Youance envers la société. Son parcours professionnel, académique et communautaire, incarne les valeurs fondamentales de l’ÉTS : former des citoyens responsables et répondre aux défis actuels de la société. Diplômée d’une maîtrise et d’un doctorat en génie de l’ÉTS, Suze Youance s’est distinguée par son expertise en génie parasismique, un domaine influencé par son enfance à Port-au-Prince, en Haïti. Son intérêt pour cette spécialisation a été profondément marqué par les tragiques événements du séisme de 2010, qui ont ravagé son pays natal. Avant de rejoindre l’ÉTS, elle a poursuivi ses études à l’Université d’État d’Haïti, réputée pour son processus d’admission très compétitif. Forte de son parcours académique, elle a aussi travaillé pendant 11 ans pour la coopération canadienne en Haïti où elle a contribué à l’élaboration de politiques de développement en Haïti, notamment divers programmes de sortie de crise. «Nous sommes extrêmement fiers de la nomination de Suze Youance. Son engagement pour un génie plus inclusif et plus humain, qui lui a valu d’être nommée Ambassadrice de l’ÉTS, témoigne de sa volonté de créer un impact positif au sein de notre communauté et dans la société en général. Son soutien aux femmes et aux jeunes ingénieurs souligne l’importance de l’inclusivité et de la diversité. Son parcours illustre comment l’ingénierie peut répondre aux grands défis humanitaires et environnementaux de notre temps, tout en reflétant les valeurs de notre institution», déclarait Kathy Baig, directrice générale et cheffe de la direction de l’ÉTS. Grâce à ses études et de son engagement, madame Youance a acquis une expertise solide, occupant des postes tels qu’ingénieure conceptrice chez CIMA+ et chargée de projet en structures chez FNX-INNOV. Cette nomination au Sénat met en lumière l’impact des diplômés de l’ÉTS, dont les contributions influencent des enjeux nationaux et dépassent le cadre académique. En tant qu’Ambassadrice ÉTS -- Recherche et innovation 2020, leader de la communauté de pratique Femmes en génie à l’ÉTS et ambassadrice du programme G-CHANGE, Suze Youance a encouragé de nombreuses jeunes femmes à poursuivre des carrières en sciences et en ingénierie, les incitant à croire en leur potentiel. Modèle pour les générations futures, elle inspire particulièrement les femmes ingénieures et celles issues de la diversité. Elle leur insuffle la confiance nécessaire pour réussir dans des domaines traditionnellement sous-représentés. Très impliquée dans la communauté haïtienne de Montréal, elle est présidente du conseil d’administration du Bureau de la communauté haïtienne de Montréal (BCHM). En plus d’être la présidente du comité scientifique de la chaire de recherche UNESCO «Femmes et sciences pour le développement» en Haïti. En reconnaissance de sa carrière et de ses contributions, madame Youance a reçu la médaille d’or Casimir Gzowski de la Société canadienne de génie civil ainsi que le prix Mathieu Da Costa de la Ligue des Noirs du Québec. Suze Youance a également animé l’émission Génie d’ici sur Savoir média, où elle a rencontré des ingénieurs et scientifiques à la recherche de solutions pour relever les défis environnementaux mondiaux. L’ÉTS se réjouit de voir une diplômée aussi accomplie jouer un rôle central dans les discussions nationales sur des enjeux critiques pour le Canada et le Québec, et lui souhaite tout le succès dans ses nouvelles fonctions. Cette nomination est le reflet de l’engagement de l’ÉTS envers un génie inclusif, durable et porteur de changements positifs pour la société.
L’Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) est heureuse d’annoncer la nomination de Karina Buist-Tactuk au poste de directrice générale adjointe (DGA), services et expérience membres. CIMA+ annonçait récemment la nomination de Martino Fanfani au poste de directeur principal, Bâtiment, Est de l’Ontario. Dans ce rôle crucial, monsieur Fanfani dirigera 2 initiatives majeures de croissance au sein du secteur Bâtiment, renforçant ainsi la réputation de CIMA+ en tant que leader et innovateur de l’industrie. Il supervisera le développement et l’exécution du plan stratégique de la firme pour Ottawa et l’Est de l’Ontario. BOMAG Americas, a Fayat Company, recently announced the promotion of Robert Vistad to sales director, dealer channel for western U.S. and Canada. In his new position, Mr. Vistad is tasked with supporting the North American dealer network and BOMAG field sales with market awareness, product knowledge and training to strengthen dealer relationships, so they can provide the best equipment solutions to BOMAG customers. A BOMAG territory manager over the last year, Robert Vistad brings 14 years of industry sales and dealer management experience to the position. He spent more than 7 years working in sales for an international compact equipment manufacturer, ultimately advancing to senior account manager. He was also a sales manager for dealer RDO Equipment Co. in southern California and spent time as a west region business manager for another compact construction equipment manufacturer. “Robert brings a wealth of sales and management experience to the position, along with a strong work ethic and business acumen,” said Christoph Thiesbrummel, vice president of sales and marketing for BOMAG Americas. “Leveraging his previous dealer experience, he strengthened the dealer network’s performance in his west coast territory. National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) Board chair Jim Nickolas issued the following statement announcing Michael Johnson’s departure as NSSGA’s president and CEO. “Mike Johnson has been a valued leader of this association for the past 11 years. He will be leaving NSSGA, as of October 11 and on behalf of NSSGA’s leadership and its members, we wish him much success in his next chapter. Under Mike’s leadership, NSSGA is in the best position it’s ever been in to represent and advocate for our members. During his tenure, the association successfully implemented four successive Rocks Build America strategic plans and our membership has grown to now exceed 500 member companies within the aggregates and industrial sand industry. The events, including the AGG1 show, continued to set new records for participation and exhibit sales, reflecting the large interest and growth of our industry,” said Mr. Nickolas. “Furthermore, Mike has assembled a team of professionals that will carry on the great work to deliver value to our member companies. The reputation and influence that NSSGA enjoys today is a testament to the work Mike and his team have done.” “Continuity is important to maintaining our success. Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB recently announced that Johnny Sjöström has been appointed president and CEO. He is currently head of the division SSAB Special Steels. Mr. Sjöström will start his new position on October 28, 2024, succeeding Martin Lindqvist who previously announced that he is leaving the company for a board career. Johnny Sjöström has extensive experience from the industry and from international work. He has been head of SSAB Special Steels since 2019. In that role, he has worked to develop and grow the company’s business for special steels and overseen the green transformation of SSAB’s steelwork in Oxelösund. Mr. Sjöström has previously been CEO of Uddeholm and held different management positions at Outokumpu Stainless Oy. “SSAB’s board and I are very happy that Johnny Sjöström has accepted the position as president and CEO of SSAB,” said Lennart Evrell, chairman of the Board at SSAB. “He has solid technical knowledge and extensive experience within the industry in the Nordic region and internationally. With his background and experience, he is the right person to lead SSAB forward. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Martin for his many achievements at SSAB and for having developed the company into the great and strong corporation it is today.” “I am honoured and proud that the board has given me the confidence to lead SSAB into the next phase,” said Johnny Sjöström. “I will now spend a lot of time listening in and traveling around the organization to get to know all parts of the company ahead of my start on October 28. During the past years, I have worked closely with Martin Lindqvist, and I look forward to continuing to deliver on the company’s long-term strategy together with all our skilled employees.” Mr. Sjöström is a Docent in material science from Karlstad University and has an executive MBA from Stockholm School of Economics. Most recently he served as group vice president, National Accounts at Navistar where he led the company’s direct sales business. During the two decades she has spent at Schneider/Invensys her roles have focused on project and services business growth, investment recommendations, strategy and marketing programs, sales readiness, and other growth strategies. Ms. Marcotte holds a Bachelor and Master's degrees in engineering from the Université du Québec. She is fluent in French and in English. Based in the U.S., Sam Shakir is the CEO of SAM Companies, a geospatial & inspection services company serving utility & infrastructure markets. He brings more than 30 years of experience in driving growth and innovation in global business environments. Prior to joining SAM Companies, Mr. Shakir was president, Plant Services and Environmental Services at Westinghouse Electric Corporation and President and CEO of Orano LLC, a prominent global supplier to the nuclear energy industry. He has expertise in the nuclear industry, operating and decommissioning plants, as well as overall experience with renewables and technology globally. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Building Engineering from Concordia University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
