LiuGong 4215D Grader Arrives in Canada: Built for Winter, Designed Around the Operator
LiuGong recently announced the introduction of a new grader built for the evolving demands of infrastructure maintenance Behind every cleared roadway is a fleet of equipment expected to perform in some of the most demanding operating environments in North America. Today, however, maintaining those fleets has become increasingly challenging. Municipalities and contractors are facing aging equipment fleets, rising operating costs, skilled labor shortages, and growing pressure to maximize every infrastructure dollar. As a result, equipment purchasing decisions are becoming more focused on long-term value, not just acquisition price. A motor grader is no longer simply a machine used to move material. It is a critical infrastructure asset responsible for maintaining safe transportation networks, supporting emergency response, managing winter conditions, repairing seasonal road damage, and extending the life of public infrastructure. The first Canadian units of the LiuGong 4215D have shipped to Groupe Gymdex, in Quebec, where some will join winter road maintenance fleets supporting demanding seasonal operations. A Grader Designed Around the Person Behind the Controls The LiuGong 4215D was engineered with operator experience as the starting point. The machine's D-Series design philosophy earned LiuGong's UK design team a prestigious Red Dot Award for design excellence, recognizing its focus on functionality, ergonomics, and operator-centered engineering. At the center of the design is a 324° panoramic cab view, achieved through a 5-post cab structure featuring a single, slender C-pillar. For winter maintenance crews, visibility is more than a comfort feature, it is a critical safety advantage. Built for Canadian Winter Operations Unlike traditional grading operations, winter maintenance requires equipment capable of handling packed snow, ice buildup, uneven surfaces, and rapidly changing conditions. The LiuGong 4215D combines a 225-hp Cummins Tier 4 final engine with a 18,000 kg operating weight to deliver the stability and pushing force required for heavy winter applications. The ZF 6-speed powershift transmission delivers smooth gear changes and optimized power delivery, allowing operators to focus on grading quality rather than machine management. Designed for long-term durability, the 4215D incorporates reinforced rolling chains, a maintenance-free Meritor axle, and a Kleanaire air pre-cleaner system to help protect engine performance in demanding environments. For customers operating in especially challenging terrain, an optional all-wheel-drive configuration provides additional traction capability for steep grades, snow-covered roads, and difficult winter conditions. For icy surfaces, the standard limited-slip differential improves traction by transferring power to the wheels with the greatest available grip. A 600 mm blade clearance allows operators to safely transport the machine over obstacles and changing terrain. The blade system provides controlled cutting performance with cutting depths ranging from 60 mm to 270 mm, helping operators maintain precision while protecting underlying road surfaces. The arrival of the 4215D represents LiuGong's continued investment in the North American market, combining competitive pricing with warranty coverage and dealer support.
