JCB Returns to Hillhead
After a 6-year break, JCB made a much-anticipated return to Hillhead in June, where the company demonstrated the very latest developments in its construction machinery range and supporting smart features, with visitors also getting to see the machines in action across the quarry. JCB launched and previewed a range of machines, including the new G60RS H hydrogen generator, the 370X heavy-duty excavator, the 145XR excavator, and 2 new rotating telehandlers. Since building its first agricultural tipping trailers back in 1945, JCB has always been looking for a better way. This commitment to innovation has fuelled our journey on the road to zero. And now, the company has taken another huge step forward with the hydrogen generator. The G60RS H is powered by the pioneering JCB hydrogen internal combustion engine. Working in conjunction with the JCB Powerpack, it is a hydrogen powered generator designed to reduce carbon footprint without sacrificing performance. JCB’s hydrogen powered generator works hand-in-hand with the JCB 3-Phase Powerpack to create an on site ‘microgrid’. This turns the Powerpack into the clean power hub on-site, while the genset acts as a battery charger – running for short periods, at high efficiency, when the battery needs topping up, or the site needs more power. As a result, there are 2 key benefits: a reduction in overall fuel consumption and long periods of silent or quiet operation. This means sites can run for longer, for less fuel costs – introducing new levels of fuel and operational efficiency. Plus, additional smart management features include timed socket controls and simple integration of on site renewables like solar panels – allowing you to produce and store clean power on site. Debuting on the stand and in the show’s demonstration area, was JCB’s biggest and most powerful X Series tracked excavator yet – the 370X. Launched in March this year, the 370X is a heavy-duty earthmover that brings industry-leading levels of productivity, durability and reliability to the 35-40-t sector. The 370X can move 4.5 t more material per litre of fuel than competitive models in the same weight class. The 145XR reduced tailswing model builds upon the success of JCB’s larger 245XR, delivering impressive performance in a compact design with a minimal counterweight swing. The 145XR has a 27% shorter counterweight overhang than a conventional 140X, making it an ideal machine for working within a highway carriageway, or on confined urban job sites. The 15-18 t machine can be supplied with a monoboom or a 2-piece triple articulating (TAB) configuration. The monoboom layout provides a maximum digging depth of 6,027 mm with a 3-m dipper, while the TAB boom has a maximum of 6,167 mm. Forward reach is up to 8,801 mm for the monoboom and 9,230 mm for the TAB specification. Their maximum lift height is 20,5 m and 25,5 m respectively while their lift capacity is 5800 kg. Their maximum reach is 17,8 m and 21,4 m respectively. Their weight is 17,960 kg and 19,400 kg respectively. Hillhead is the UK’s largest quarrying, construction and recycling show and is held biennially near Buxton in Derbyshire.
