Thor Global Enterprises & AEM Host MP Iqwinder S. Gaheer at Mississauga Facility

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) recently joined Thor Global Enterprises Ltd., in hosting Mississauga-Malton MP Iqwinder S. Gaheer at the company’s Mississauga facility, as part of AEM’s ongoing advocacy efforts on behalf of Canada’s off-road equipment industry.

Thor Global is a leading manufacturer of bulk material handling equipment for applications ranging from mining, recycling and aggregate to agriculture, coal, mineral and port terminals. The facility employs 60 skilled workers from the surrounding region and plays a key role in the local economy, recently making investments to accommodate larger machines, improve finishing capacity, and support production of bigger, more complex equipment.

Thor and MP Gaheer discussed some of the key policy priorities for Canadian equipment manufacturers, including coordinated federal-provincial investments to develop a sustainable pipeline of skilled labour to meet anticipated future demand, and greater trade certainty through reduced interprovincial and international commercial barriers to maintain a pro-investment environment that will help local manufacturers grow.

MP Gaheer was able to observe Thor Global’s bulk material handling equipment in action during the visit, while also learning about their new MaxStack MXT Series and recent custom projects. These projects include supplying equipment to load armour stone onto specialized vessels for offshore windmill construction and renewable power generation, as well as supporting Canada's first mobile conveyor-based cement unloading facility, a landmark industry achievement.

“It was a pleasure to visit Thor Global Enterprises and see first-hand the innovative work being done right here in Mississauga-Malton. Companies like Thor Global play a vital role in strengthening our local economy, supporting good jobs, and showcasing the expertise of Canada’s manufacturing sector. I look forward to continuing to support initiatives that strengthen the competitiveness, sustainability, and growth of equipment manufacturers in our community,” said Iqwinder S. Gaheer, Member of Parliament, Mississauga–Malton.

“We strongly believe in the potential of our operations here in Mississauga and in the expertise of our talented team. With a partner like the AEM and the engagement of our elected officials, we are poised to continue strengthening our position as a leader in the manufacturing of bulk material handling equipment. We were pleased to welcome MP Gaheer and appreciate the opportunity to showcase the work being done here at Thor Global,” said Torben Johannsen, Chief Executive Officer.

“Thor Global is an excellent example of Ontario's manufacturing excellence and the innovation driving our off-road equipment sector. The productive discussions we had with MP Gaheer underscore the importance of continued collaboration between industry and government to strengthen Canada's competitive position in manufacturing. We're grateful to MP Gaheer for visiting, and for Thor Global showcasing the calibre of work happening right here in Ontario,” said Alexandre Mattard-Michaud, Director of Government Affairs, Canada, AEM.

This visit reflects AEM's continued commitment to engaging policymakers and amplifying the importance of Canada's equipment manufacturing industry and the 147,000 jobs it supports across the country.
