Hardox® Wear Plate with Virtually Zero Fossil Carbon Emissions Debuts at bauma 2025
SSAB Zero™ is made using recycled steel in a process powered by fossil-free electricity and biogas – resulting in virtually no carbon emissions from fossil fuels during the steelmaking process. The fossil carbon emissions in SSAB’s production of SSAB Zero™ are less than 0.05 kg CO2e/kg steel in Scope 1 and 2 of the GHG Protocol. This steel can thus help reduce carbon emissions at the source, from the steel production process itself, downstream throughout a manufacturer’s value chain. Heavy equipment manufacturers depend on carbon-intensive materials like steel, which has traditionally been a major emitter. SSAB is leading the green steel tr Hardox® 450 made from SSAB Zero™ can be used in all current equipment that use Hardox® wear plate. It is a verified, market-proven product available today. Industry heavyweights and long-standing customers of SSAB are already using Hardox® 450 made from SSAB Zero™ to make a world of difference in their industries. Epiroc, is one of the first mining equipment manufacturers in the world to feature a loading bucket made with SSAB Zero™ in a commercial product. Their Scooptram ST18 SG underground loader is smart, fully electric and automation ready. “By introducing SSAB Zero™ in our serial production, we show this is not just talk – we are actually taking action and reducing our upstream footprint., said Carin Bergendorff, vice president Group Strategic Sourcing at Epiroc. “You won’t notice the change – the next gener “For us, we see this as a natural and significant milestone in our progress to become one of Sweden’s first manufacturers offering fossil-free truck bodies to our customers,” said Lars Erfäldt, CEO of Zetterbergs. “We are excited to be part of this development and to actively contribute to the ongoing transition towards sustainability.” Groupe Vincent designs, manufactures and distributes transportation equipment, including 2-way and 3-way tippers designed for carriers of all sizes. These products are known for their durability, quality, design and ability to meet the needs of various hauling businesses. In 2024, they became the first manufacturer in France to launch a product line made entirely using SSAB Zero™. Their innovative use of the low-carbon steel earned them the Technotrans CSR 2024 award in the Sustainable category.
