Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks at RETTmobil 2024

At this year's RETTmobil – the leading international exhibition for rescue and mobility, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks presented a Unimog water tender in the outdoor area. With numerous off-road features, the vehicle is designed for operations in particularly difficult terrain, such as forest and vegetation fires or flood and rescue operations. Other Unimog-based emergency vehicles, such as one of the 26 Unimog U 5023 recently procured by the state of Hesse, were also be on display at RETTmobil. The trade fair for innovative solutions in the field of fire and rescue technology took place from May 15-17 in Fulda, Germany.

Unimog U 5023 as a “TLF 3000” Water Tender with Rosenbauer Body
The all-terrain Unimog U 5023 offers a range of technical features that equip it for operations in rough terrain and especially for fighting forest fires. With its high ground clearance of 50 cm, the Unimog can drive over many obstacles even in extreme terrain and climb steep slopes thanks to the large ramp and slope angles. The combination of special off-road tires and an integrated tire pressure regulation system, which allows the tire pressure to be quickly adjusted while driving, ensures traction on various surfaces.

The fording capability can be up to 1.2 m, with optional extra equipment, allows the crew to drive through rivers or use their vehicle in flooded areas. The Unimog is also equipped with heat protection on all operationally relevant lines, which increases the safety of the emergency services and the reliability of the vehicle in heat-intensive environments.

The Unimog U 5023 is equipped with a Rosenbauer superstructure that meets the requirements of a TLF 3000 in accordance with fire department standard DIN-14530-22. The tank holds 3,000 l and the extinguishing agent is applied by means of a FPN 10-2000 centrifugal fire pump in accordance with DIN EN 1028. Larger pump capacities and additional spray bars can also be added at the customer's request. Two equipment compartments on each side and an equipment compartment in the rear of the vehicle provide the necessary storage space.

The welded aluminium frame of the Rosenbauer superstructure ensures high stability and low weight, while the best possible weight distribution between the front and rear axles and a low centre of gravity optimize the vehicle’s handling characteristics. With the superstructure, the slope angle at the rear is 42°, which also allows driving in very demanding terrain with changing topography.

The Unimog general agency KBM Motorfahrzeuge GmbH & Co. KG will be presenting a multifunctional Unimog with crane and forest fire protection module (GW-L KatS) from a major contract with the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.
Göbel Fahrzeugbau will be presenting a Unimog U 5023 as a logistics equipment vehicle with vertical lift.

Visitors to the trade fair also had the opportunity to experience 2 Unimog ambulances from the German Red Cross and a Unimog with a crew cab up close on the off-road course at Entrance 2.

The next edition of RETTmobil will take place from May 14-16, 2025, in Fulda, Germany.
