Piazza Venezia Metro Station, the World’s Most Beautiful “Archeostation”
The Venezia station on Rome’s Metro C line will be an archeostation: as you enter the 8 underground levels, you will have the feeling of putting your feet inside a real museum, accessible to the citizenry and the millions of tourists who will pass through. Forty-five meters deep, with perimeter walls retaining the excavation reaching a depth of 85 m, Venice will be a museum among museums. In addition to creating through 3 entrances a connection between the most important museum buildings in the historic center of Rome, the station will house part of the ancient structures that will be unearthed during the excavation including the halls of Hadrian’s Auditoria. The station will connect Palazzo Venezia, the Vittoriano and the archaeological area of the Imperial Forums, each with its own dedicated access. Inside will be relocated the archaeological remains that emerged during excavations, in their original position on the ancient Via Flaminia. Each floor will have a plan development of 4,500 m2. A total of 26 km are planned, 17 of which will be underground and 9 above ground. Interconnections with existing lines will be for Metro A San Giovanni and Ottaviano, Metro B Colosseo and FL1/FL3. The Trevi Group is involved in the foundation works, which are extremely important and delicate considering the historical context. The new Tiger SC-130 plus milling machine from Soilmec, the engineering division of Trevi Group, will be used to make the panels.
