Konecranes to Extend the Service Life of a Mobile Harbor Crane
This order highlights Konecranes’ expertise in extending the service life of existing port equipment. By upgrading this essential piece of equipment, Steinweg can improve its logistics capabilities and maintain its competitive edge in the dynamic European market. Originally brought into service in 2003, the crane will undergo significant upgrades, including the replacement and refurbishment of its main components – drives, electrics, engine and hydraulics. The modernization and refurbishment project is set to begin in Q2 2025.
“Having a history spanning 175 years, we understand that to ensure our continued success, we must maintain efficient and sustainable operations. As the original equipment manufacturer, Konecranes is uniquely positioned and certified to provide a modernization that meets our strict local standards and integrates with our existing fleet of Konecranes Gottwald cranes,” said Arie Stam, Technical Service Cranes manager at Steinweg. The modernization will preserve the crane’s original steel structure while adding new electric drives and components controlled by updated software, an optimized diesel generator compatible with biofuels, and upgraded hydraulics and electric motors. Additionally, the crane will be prepared for an external power supply, allowing for future retrofitting to electric operation, which will help reduce exhaust and noise emissions.
